We have been together for 5 years, we have a modern classic love story of boy meets boy via Instagram! Not very romantic however our first date at a local bar was very sweet and romantic.
Tell us about the proposal.
The proposal was more of a mutual decision. We had talked about getting married for a while and over Christmas we decided we would do it the coming year!
Any stories from the lead-up to the wedding, stressful or funny?
Well.. we were almost late to our own wedding, hurrying the hotel staff carrying champagne out of our room as we arrived! We had a turnaround time of around 3 minutes to get into our suits before hailing a cab to make it to the venue! Although it did fit well with the laid-back vibe of our wedding.
Also, Patrick’s sister-in-law wearing a latex dress in June was gorgeous and amusing at the same time.. it started with her carrying a dishcloth she had acquired from the bar staff to try and contain the pouring sweat running down her legs and ended in her disappearing and appearing again wearing a hotel robe and high heels!
What led you to the venue? Had you been there before?
We had never been to the venue before but we loved the city industrial aesthetic and when we spoke to the venue owners we got a great vibe from them. All felt very relaxed and exactly what we were looking for.
What was the inspiration behind the vibe of your wedding and why did you go with that?
We knew we wanted the main bulk of the wedding to be centered around the party, the dancing the drinking (the best bits) so when we found this industrial warehouse used for raves often in the center of Digbeth with a huge disco ball and animal print toilets we were sold! The keywords were sexy chic and fun.
Talk to us about your experience finding the perfect outfits.
Pretty much a lot of shopping!! We wanted to wear suits we enjoyed the special feeling that accompanied that.. however the cut and print of the suit had to be right for us, that was the hardest part to find. When Patrick saw this particular fabric, it was giving clueless X Barbie and he was sold.
Talk to us about the big day! And what were your favourite parts?
Our evening was perfect. The ceremony was brief and so much about the love, it was a moment we will never forget. And the rest was a vibrant gorgeous get-together of all our favorite people.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, we would say the ceremony, hearing each other’s vows for the first time. Having our photos taken was also a favorite moment, we had some time just the two of us. It was so relaxed and fun and romantic.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage to us, as big as it is.. means all the small things, the promise to always hear about a bad day or make the other a cup of tea in the morning before leaving to go to work, it’s a promise to be there for all the small things, always with the other in mind.
Advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Have EXACTLY what you want. People will moan even if you try and please them.. so please yourself!
