A Beautiful Queer Wedding Story

A Queer Wedding in the Wisconsin Countryside

Nathan and Colten are both nurses and share many common interests, including a love for RuPaul’s Drag Race. They met through work and school, and after a year of bump-ins, they finally got together. Their proposal was a surprise graduation celebration, where Nathan popped the question surrounded by their family and friends.

Planning a wedding is never easy, but Nathan and Colten had a few bumps in the road that added to the stress. First, they accidentally chose the same wedding date as Nathan’s cousin, but everything turned out fine when they were able to move their wedding to a different weekend in the same month. A pro-tip they shared was to let your family know as soon as you have a wedding date in mind.

They found their perfect venue online, an all-outdoor venue that spoke for itself and didn’t require a ton of decoration. Their inspiration for the wedding was nature, and they wanted to bring that to life on their special day. Their parents were pro DIY’ers, and they helped with the decorations and ironed out all the fine details. Nathan and Colten also wore custom-made suits that were a perfect reflection of their personalities.

Their big day was everything they had hoped for, even though it was one of the hottest days in Wisconsin. They loved dancing the night away with their friends under the stars in a rural prairie. Their favorite moments were the little times they got to sneak away from the commotion and revel in the memories they were creating.

One of their standout vendors was their photographer, Alyssa Lentz. They were nervous about finding a photographer who would be affirming to their queer love, but Alyssa was one of a kind. She captured their joy and love and helped them celebrate their queer love.

To Nathan and Colten, marriage is the ultimate commitment, where you are fully giving yourself to another person. It represents so many things for them, especially their struggle in finding acceptance from the world. They couldn’t be more proud to be married and illustrate how much joy there is in queer love.

Their advice for other couples planning a wedding is to give yourself some slack and remember why you’re going through it all in the first place – love. They were glad they went on their honeymoon right after the wedding and wished they had budgeted more towards it than the ceremony and reception.
